Seven birders met at Jackman Wetlands in Langley – Bob, Margaret, Dottie, Teresa, Glen, Terry, Mei.
Near the parking lot were Starlings and White-crowned Sparrows. Black-capped Chickadees and a Downy Woodpecker were feeding on Great Mulleins. A juvenile Rufous Hummingbird posed for photos. We heard and saw several Willow Flycatchers all morning.
The first pond was pretty well dried up but Teresa spotted a Green Frog. In the main pond were 3 Canada Geese, a Pied-billed Grebe with chicks, and a Mallard with ducklings. There were Cedar Waxwings, Towhees, Robins, Goldfinches, Flickers, a Brown Creeper and a female Red-winged Blackbird.
It was hard to see into the large pond on the south side but we did see a flying shorebird that turned out to be a Spotted Sandpiper.
On this warm morning some butterflies, dragonflies, damselflies and other insects posed for photos. However we were early enough to avoid the heat on what became a very hot day.
