JUNE 21
For the next 4 nights, over 20 Delta Naturalists are birding in and around Oliver, BC. Our leader, Thea Beckman made most of the field and restaurant arrangements.
On our way here today we made several strategic stops looking for birds and other wildlife.
JUNE 22
Day 2 of the Delta Naturalists birding trip to the Oliver area yielded another 20 some odd species for total of 72.
JUNE 23
Day 3 of the Delta Naturalists’ trip to the Oliver area had us birding up McKinney Road and later in the day at Haynes Provincial Park in Osoyoos. The weather was gorgeous and we added another 22 species bringing our count to 94. The day ended at Owl Pub which was appropriate since we had seen an owl just minutes earlier.
JUNE 25
Days 4&5 of the Delta Naturalists’ birding trip to Oliver took us to White Lake where we added cool birds like Gray Partridge and White-throated Swift and Vaseux Lake where we saw and heard a long list of beautiful birds.
Anticipating the noon Canada vs Switzerland soccer game, we started the day earlier yesterday to get as much birding in as possible. We piled into a pub for the game and lunch.
In the evening we enjoyed a delicious meal at Burrowing Owl Winery.
The morning of the last day took a few of us back to the Vaseux Lake area where we heard both Rock and Canyon Wrens and got more great looks at the Yellow-breasted Chat.
The antelope-brush shrublands, grasslands, sagebrush and ponderosa pine forests in the Oliver area did not disappoint and yielded some wonderful and often unique birds and other wildlife.
