14 of us (including 7 non-members) met at the entrance to Reifel Bird Sanctuary at 9am sharp. We hadn’t left the entrance area when we saw a Rufous Hummingbird and a Sandhill Crane which got us off to an exciting start. We quickly added the usual avian greeters like Mallards, House Sparrows, Red-winged Blackbirds, Wood Ducks, Brown-headed Cowbirds, Great Blue Herons plus as a bonus saw several Black Swifts flying overhead. Heading for the ponds on the west side of the park, we added a Northern Yellow Warbler, heard a Common Yellowthroat calling and saw more waterfowl species, including Cinnamon Teal . A constant presence overhead were Tree Swallows, Barn Swallows and Purple Martins. We looped around toward the observation tower and then made our way back toward the entrance via an inside trail where we picked up a few more species. An enjoyable walk all around.
