Delta Naturalists Outing to Colony Farm, May 27, 2026

PHOTO: Lazuli Bunting by Bruce Taylor…….

Nine Delta Nats set out to explore Colony Farms on a beautiful sunny morning. We immediately walked across the road to look for the Lazuli Bunting which luckily was seen in short order as it flitted around an area down a short path.

After finding our main target we went back through the parking lot to the main trails. After a few minutes and quite a bit of chatter in the group we found an Eastern Kingbird, another target bird.

After crossing the bridge we found a Hairy Woodpecker on a dead snag. We also started hearing Willow Flycatchers – lots of them. They were a constant presence for the rest of the walk.

We also saw a number of the usual ducks like Wood, Gadwall and Mallard along with many songbirds and a few more migrants like Western Flycatchers and Common Yellowthroats who breed in the park.

At close to 11am we returned to the parking lot after a quick 3 hours of beautiful birds and good company.
