Ten birders spent a pleasant morning wandering through the UBC Botanical Garden – Jonathan, Terry, Don, Lidia, Dottie, Bob, Lee, Lorna, Deems and Lorraine.
As Lee said, the variety of plants and trees more than made up for the lack of birds seen. In fact, they were likely responsible for the lack of birds seen. We did see American Goldfinch, House Finch, Song Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Swainson’s Thrush, Anna’s & Rufous Hummingbird, Common Raven, Red-winged Blackbird, American Robin, European Starling, Barn Swallow, Tree Swallow, Northern Flicker, Spotted Towhee, Black-capped Chickadee, Brown-headed Cowbird, and Bushtit.
We also heard Western Tanager, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Purple Finch, Black-headed Grosbeak, and Warbling Vireo. There was also a nice selection of bumble bees and other insects.
