Dr. Haulena will be sharing knowledge of health issues that could be interfering with the recovery of the small, vulnerable population of Southern Resident Killer Whales.

Dr. Marty is a graduate of Ontario Veterinary College and has a Master’s degree in Pathobiology from the University of Guelph. He is also a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine.

Currently the Head Veterinarian at the Vancouver Aquarium and Executive Director of Vancouver Marine Mammal Rescue, he was the staff veterinarian at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California for nine years.  He has a special interest in innovative diagnostic methods, developing safe anesthetic  protocols and improving surgical techniques.

He conducts clinical and basic research on marine mammals and is actively involved in the preservation of endangered species.
