DNCB Outing No. 2023-24B to Colony Farm, June 14, 2023
There were only supposed to be 3 of us there: Marion, Lindly and Glen. At 08:00 we called Lindly to check and she had thought it would be bad weather so decided last night not to come. We told her it was looking pretty good – overcast but dry enough – so she said she

DNCB Outing No. 2023-23B to Tsawwassen Ferry Causeway & Reifel, June 7, 2023
Ferry Causeway I was the only birder, casual or serious, at the ferry jetty this morning. The tide was high and some Black Oystercatchers were piping. Great Blue Herons flew into the marsh from the heronry, one by one, for the twenty minutes I was there. When I left, 25 were stood quietly on the

DNCB Outing No. 2023-23A to Tsawwassen Ferry Causeway & Reifel, June 6, 2023
Five birders met on the ferry causeway on a very windy morning. There were Eagles, Herons, gulls and Oystercatchers, but the other birds were sheltering somewhere else. We stopped at the heronry near the beginning of the causeway. Many herons were on nests, many more were flying in or out, and eagles were soaring above.

DNCB Outing No. 2023-21B to Ladner Harbour Park and Ferry Road, May 24, 2023
Eight of us met at Ladner Harbour Park at 8am: Brian and Louise, Marion, Lindly, Lorna, Glen, Colin and Stephanie. It’s that time of year when you can hear things in the trees – and if you’re good you can recognize them – but the leaves make viewing a real challenge. I don’t think anyone

DNCB Outing No. 2022-38B to Iona Beach Regional Park, September 21, 2022
On a glorious could-be summer morning, five DNCB’ers meet in the parking lot of Iona Beach Regional Park: Thea, Rosemary, Chris, Louise, and Roger M. There were meant to be 7, however, and we found out that an accident shortly before the George Massey tunnel delayed Lynne and Warren by well over an hour! They

DNCB Outing No. 2022-37B to Boundary Bay Dyke from 104th to 96th, September 14, 2022
With a rising tide and a 12 foot High for 09:12 at Crescent Beach, the group gathered before 8 AM to catch the shorebirds moving inshore. There were lots of Western Sandpipers closer in and Black-bellied Plovers a bit farther out with some Sanderling along the tide edge. Without a scope the identification of the

DNCB Outing No. 2022-31A to Campbell Valley Regional Park, August 2, 2022
18 DNCBers had a very pleasant walk at Campbell Valley Regional Park in Langley. Deems, Jacquie, Warren, Heather, Lorna, Margaret, Lee, Gabriele, John, Roger, Mike, Lidia, David, Noreen, Glen, Dottie, Bob (photo by Terry) The cooler temperature was much appreciated. The birds were fairly few and far between, but there were some interesting bugs and

DNCB Outing No. 2022-30A to Maplewood Flats, July 26, 2022
Only 7 DNCBers braved the heat and the traffic to visit Maplewood Flats: David, Noreen, Lidia, Margaret, Kirsten, Richard and Glen. That somewhat minimized the chat fest and gave the birds the opportunity to come out and be seen. But it seems most of them were also avoiding the heat. Our walk started with some
