DNCB Outing No. 2021-47A to Brunswick Point & North 40/VWS, November 23, 2021
Twelve people met at Brunswick Point on Tuesday. It was clear but cold, and very windy with whitecaps on the river. The wind kept most birds hidden, but we did have some good sightings. A Merlin sped by the parking area. Several Northern Harriers were patrolling both sides of the dyke, and there were Eagles

DNCB Outing No. 2021-46B to White Rock & Blackie Spit, November 17, 2021
Eleven of us met at the entrance to the WR Pier, and once we concurred that it was indeed 08:08, we headed out (some of us were a bit behind on our timing). There were lots of Surf & White-winged Scoters feeding close along the pilings, which provided very close viewing as they were regularly

DNCB Outing No. 2021-44B to Tsawwassen Ferry Causeway & Reifel, November 3, 2021
Eight of us arrived at Reifel just after the gates opened. Noreen and I were the only ones at the Ferry Causeway at 8AM where spitting rain was coming to an end but winds out of the SE were brisk. There were 17 species, including Pelagic and Double-crested Cormorants, Horned Grebe, and hundreds of European

DNCB Outing No. 2021-44A to Tsawwassen Ferry Causeway & Reifel, November 2, 2021
Some of the group gathered at the Ferry Terminal and got some great views of Black Turnstone, Black Oystercatcher, cormorants, grebes, loons, and diving ducks. I missed that as I spent an extra half hour on coffee and joined the group at Reifel Bird Sanctuary at 9am. There were 14 of us for that part

DNCB Outing No. 2021-43B to Boundary Bay Dyke at 104th on October 27, 2021
It was a windy windy day on the Dike at 104th St. All ten of us (*see below) managed to keep our hats on and the rain stayed away. We were a little early at 9am but the tide came in quickly – it didn’t bring that many shorebirds with it. The crows and Eagles

DNCB Outing No. 2021-43A to Boundary Bay Dyke at 104th on October 26, 2021
Eleven hardy souls gathered at 9 AM in the SE winds and hoped for the rain to hold off during our stroll along the dyke. Lidia had arrived earlier when there were still a few sandbars, but the low pressure combined with the SE wind had brought a “Storm Surge” high tide which had obliterated

DNCB Outing No. 2021-42 to Iona Beach Regional Park on October 19, 2021
We had a beautiful morning for our DNCB trip to Iona. Even before I got out of my car, I was enjoying the sight of a Cooper’s Hawk sitting just a few metres away. Snow Geese were calling overhead and gathering on the shore as the tide went out and there were many Ring-billed and

DNCB Outing No. 2021-41B to Ladner Harbour Park and Boundary Bay Dyke at 104th, October 13, 2021
A small contingent of 6 (Pat, Manli, Lidia, Gabriel, Noreen & David) started at the parking lot and walked the road to the start of the Shirley Trail checking the slough for Roger’s Pied-billed Grebe from Tuesday that had been there as we drove in. It was hidden, but Mallards, a Great Blue Heron, and

DNCB Outing No. 2021-41A to Ladner Harbour Park and Boundary Bay Dyke at 104th, October 12, 2021
We met at Ladner Harbour Park at 8am on a cool, dry morning. Roger saw a Pied-billed Grebe by the bridge before the parking lot. Our walk began along the recently completed Shirley’s Path with its impressive new bridge; then continued along the usual loop through the trees to the river and the viewing platform.
