Thirteen DNCBers met at Iona Beach Regional Park in Richmond on a cool, foggy morning: Richard, Kirsten, Jacquie, Lee, Bob, Dottie, Glen, Chris, Jim, Peter, Joe, Lori Y, Terry. There were sieges of herons, but no ducks, in the pond by the parking lot. A single Red-winged Blackbird was giving his song on the edge

We planned a joint DNCB and Langley Field Naturalists Outing to Serpentine Fen on Saturday, January 15. There were 8 Delta Nats and 12 Langley Nats so the two groups walked the loop in opposite directions. The Delta Nats were Glen, Pat, Thea, Rosemary, Nadine, Susan, Joe and Terry. It was foggy but dry. This

DNCB Outing No. 2021-48A to Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay Regional Park, December 1, 2021
Nine of us gathered at Centennial Beach on a grey and breezy morning and headed for the little pond just south of the playground. This small, sheltered area was quite productive, with a Common Goldeneye, a couple of Buffleheads, and the usual Mallards. Blackbirds, both Brewer’s and Red-winged were flying around, and one poor little

DNCB Outing No. 2021-47B to Brunswick Point, November 24, 2021
I arrived punctually at 8am, and Noreen and David were parked a few minutes later. After deciding we must be the only birders today, we set off along the trail around Brunswick Point. Golden-crowned Sparrows were hopping around the soil piles on the farmland edge, and the first of many Song Sparrows made itself visible.

DNCB Outing No. 2021-47A to Brunswick Point & North 40/VWS, November 23, 2021
Twelve people met at Brunswick Point on Tuesday. It was clear but cold, and very windy with whitecaps on the river. The wind kept most birds hidden, but we did have some good sightings. A Merlin sped by the parking area. Several Northern Harriers were patrolling both sides of the dyke, and there were Eagles

DNCB Outing No. 2020-03 to Iona Regional Park
Twenty-four keeners enjoyed a fairly productive Tuesday morning in Iona Regional Park and the adjacent sewage ponds. We only recorded 26 species (see David’s eBird list below), but saw tonnes of birds, and you can check out the brilliant photo evidence, including the Blue Goose, on our DNCB Flickr site. Two vehicles left Petra’s at

DNCB Outing No. 2019-46 to Iona Regional Park
Twenty-eight (Wow!) DNCBers enjoyed another super Tuesday outing to Iona Regional Park and the adjacent sewage ponds. The weather was dry and comfortable and we had lots of neat sightings, including an uncommon-here American Tree Sparrow. Check out the spectacular photo evidence on our DNCB Flickr site. Several car-pooled from Petra’s at 7:30 am; an

DNCB Outing No. 2019-08 to Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty, TFN and Reifel Bird Sanctuary
With a weather report of a strong wind from Squamish producing a minus 13 degree wind chill, I was amazed to find Petra’s DNCB table crowded with 10 dedicated birders. It was mind-numbing just to picture us on the unprotected ferry jetty trying to hold our binoculars steady! However, when we reached it we found
