The fourteen DNCBers who met at Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen on a cold, wet morning, questioned their sanity. Several Bald Eagles were keeping watch from the trees.

DNCB Outing No. 2022-09B to Blackie Spit, March 2, 2022
The sky was pregnant with the promise of rain (and actual rain) when seven brave, weather-defiant birders arrived at Blackie Spit – Brian, Louise, Jonathan, Lorraine, Margaret, Terry, and Thea. And right when I was doubting my decision to drive 40 minutes only to spend three hours in the rain, I spotted a flotilla of

It was a crisp, -3˚C, sunny, beautiful morning when we met up at 9am to start our walk. North Van’s Richard had been there awhile, and informed us that the Mandarin Duck and Eurasian Green-winged Teal were at Piper Spit as well as many other species. It was a swift visit for Richard as he

We met at the parking lot—which has potholes the size of meteor craters—on King George

It was -3 degrees C with snow forecast, but a handful of the group assembled at 8am at the ferry jetty. The sky was overcast, the tide very high, and very few birds were on the water. The most interesting observation was the large group of Black Oystercatchers that had roosted on the gravel spit.

DNCB Outing No. 2022-04B to Iona Beach Regional Park, January 26, 2022
We had a misty, cool, but dry walk, with 12 participants: Angela, Brian and Louise, Colin and Stephanie, Lidia, Warren and Lynne, Margaret, Thea, and me, with Bryan joining us a bit later. The tide was high at 9am, and the bay was very quiet, bird-wise. Thirty Great Blue Herons stood in a roost at
