DNCB Outing No. 2023-47B to Terra Nova Rural Park, November 22, 2023
After a real page-turner of a report from the Tuesday group, six Delta Nats—Thea, Rosemary, Richard, Glen, Louise, and Lidia—showed up at Terra Nova practically salivating at the prospect of a buffet of winter rarities, like Redpoll and Pine Grosbeak. The “partly sunny” part of the weather forecast was greatly embellished, and we found ourselves

DNCB Outing No. 2023-35A to Sidney Spit, August 30, 2023
Eight birders had a very enjoyable trip to Sidney Spit. The weather was perfect after the stormy weather of the previous day. Brian A, Lidia, Margaret, Lorna and Terry took the 7am Victoria ferry. From the windows on the walkway to the departure lounge we saw some cute gull chicks. At the Tsawwassen terminal were

DNCB Outing No. 2023-34B to Alaksen National Wildlife Area, Wed. 13 August, 2023
Where were the birds? We were all there in great numbers: Liz and Alan, Brian and Louise, Warren and Lynne, Anne, Brian R, Jonny Mac, Lee, Lidia, Lindly, Margaret, Marion, Glen and newcomer Joanna Chin who gamely made the whole trip with us on a pair of crutches! Maybe our large number scared off the

DNCB Outing No. 2023-23B to Tsawwassen Ferry Causeway & Reifel, June 7, 2023
Ferry Causeway I was the only birder, casual or serious, at the ferry jetty this morning. The tide was high and some Black Oystercatchers were piping. Great Blue Herons flew into the marsh from the heronry, one by one, for the twenty minutes I was there. When I left, 25 were stood quietly on the

DNCB Outing No. 2023-21B to Ladner Harbour Park and Ferry Road, May 24, 2023
Eight of us met at Ladner Harbour Park at 8am: Brian and Louise, Marion, Lindly, Lorna, Glen, Colin and Stephanie. It’s that time of year when you can hear things in the trees – and if you’re good you can recognize them – but the leaves make viewing a real challenge. I don’t think anyone

DNCB Outing No. 2023-19B to Joe Brown Park, May 10, 2023
Glen got to Joe Brown a few minutes before our 8am scheduled arrival and turned on Merlin Sound ID. In a few minutes it had identified 15 birds while just standing there at the entrance to the trail. But most of them were never seen as we walked through the park perhaps because all the

DNCB Outing No. 2023-13B to Deas Island Regional Park, March 29, 2023
Although it was chilly at 8:00 am on Wednesday, the sun shone the whole time, and it gradually warmed up as our group of seven made its way around Deas Island. We were Brian and Louise, Liz, Marion, Vicki, Margaretha, and Angela. Roger M. joined us briefly to make sure we found the Great Horned

DNCB Outing No. 2023-13A to Deas Island Regional Park, March 28, 2023
Fourteen birders met at Deas Island Regional park on a glorious spring morning – Terry, Grant, Bob, Dottie, Lidia, John, Lorna, Jacquie, Mike, Roger, Jim, Lee, Chris P and Lori. In the slough were Bufflehead, Mallards, Common Goldeneye and American Wigeon. A juvenile Bald Eagle looked down from a high perch and others flew overhead.
