The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR) is a global leader in marine mammal rescue, research, and rehabilitation. We respond to over 300 marine mammal emergencies each year and operate Canada’s only dedicated marine mammal hospital facility.
Our mission is clear: to rescue, rehabilitate, and release marine mammals in distress.
With your support, sick, injured, or orphaned seals, sea otters, sea lions, turtles, and small cetaceans are given a second chance at life.
Dr. Marty is a graduate of Ontario Veterinary College and has a Master’s degree in Pathobiology from the University of Guelph. He is also a Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine.
Currently the Head Veterinarian at the Vancouver Aquarium and Executive Director of Vancouver Marine Mammal Rescue, he was the staff veterinarian at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California for nine years. He has a special interest in innovative diagnostic methods, developing safe anesthetic protocols and improving surgical techniques.
He conducts clinical and basic research on marine mammals and is actively involved in the preservation of endangered species.
