PHOTO: Snow Geese by Terry Carr….
11 DNCBers met at the parking lot for Brunswick Point at 9am. There were huge flocks of noisy Snow Geese in the fields. Across the river two Bald Eagles were sitting on poles. Eagles are just returning to Delta. In the river were Canada Geese and gulls.

Lori, Jacquie, Bob, Lorna, Terry, Dottie, Lee, Lucia, Mike, John and Roger (not in photo). Lucia is visiting from Slovakia and we all enjoyed meeting her.
Along our route we spotted sparrows (White-crowned, Golden-crowned, Savannah and Fox), Starlings, Flickers, Robins and Towhees. There was a large eagle nest near where an earlier one had fallen down. Northern Harriers were patrolling the marsh and two Eagles were perched on a log at the edge of the river. In the water were a few Cormorants and a seal appeared briefly. Large flocks of ducks were flying by and landing in the river – mostly Mallards and Wigeon – along with some Pintail and Green-winged Teal. There was a single Shoveler in the ditch and Herons were landing in the colourful purple cabbage fields. Starlings and Killdeer were very well camouflaged in the recently harvested potato field. All along the route were large clumps of purple Asters, along with some still blooming Tansy, Goldenrod and Yarrow – and large clumps of red rose hips.
The weather was very pleasant for the first two hours but we rushed back to the cars in a heavy downpour – cursing those responsible for moving the parking so far from the trailhead.
