On October 13, a gorgeous fall day, 6 of us (Chris, Roger, Glen, David, Noreen and I) headed to Burnaby Mountain to look for picturesque and otherwise interesting mushrooms. We were hoping the recent rains would cause many mushrooms to have grown to a point where they were breaking through the large amount of leaf litter on the mountain.
Almost immediately we found a huge cluster of Sulphur Tuft mushrooms which got the cameras warmed up.

We made our way down Cardiac Hill and then across the mountain on part of the Trans Canada Trail. On a fallen tree we saw these beautiful Pholiota mushrooms as they were in the process of breaking down this log.

Further along we found more picture-worthy mushrooms (a Shaggy Parasol and an unknown). There was one species of mushroom (3rd pic below) that we saw along our entire journey. We’re still trying to figure out the exact species.

Along the way we met some mushroom-curious people, allowing us to enlighten them on our activity.
After a 3 hour walk through the forest, we found ourselves at the end of the trail and the start of our drive back to Tsawwassen. All in all a lovely day to poke around the woods. (photos by David, Chris and myself)
