Ten birders met at Joe Brown Park in Surrey on a lovely spring morning – Jacquie, Lidia, Dottie, Jonathan, Lindly, Lorraine, Terry, John, Lorna, Jim.
All the new foliage made it difficult to see the birds. We heard some species that we did not see – including Pacific-slope Flycatcher and Black-throated Gray Warbler. nThe highlight was a gorgeous male Western Tanager at the top of a cedar tree.

Also seen were Warbling Vireo, American Goldfinch, Black-capped and Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Black-headed Grosbeak, Bewick’s Wren, House Finch, American Robin, Spotted Towhee, Dark-eyed Junco, Anna’s and Rufous Hummingbirds, Song Sparrow, Orange-crowned Warbler and Yellow-rumped Warbler. We searched the bushes for singing Common Yellowthroats and were very pleased when a bright male finally posed for photos. Another exciting viewing was when Dottie spotted a Barred Owl in the open, high on a branch.

We used iNaturalist to identify plants and flowers. We were able to photograph a few bees and a Margined White Butterfly.
