Eight birders met at Queen Elizabeth Park on a cool morning that soon warmed up. We parked below the tennis courts on 37th Avenue to avoid the 4 dollar an hour parking fee.

It was relatively quiet birdwise. We did see Bushits, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Wilson’s Warblers, Orange-crowned Warblers, Black-capped Chickadees, Song Sparrows, Anna’s Hummingbirds, Dark-eyed Juncos, Robins and an American Goldfinch. We heard Black-throated Gray Warblers, Flickers, Pacific Wrens and Red-breasted Nuthatches. Several Eastern Gray Squirrels were very active. We looked in vain for Barred Owls.

There were Mallards and Gadwall in the duck pond. Yellow-rumped Warblers and a Wilson’s Warbler were very busy hunting insects beside the pond – frustrating the photographers by rarely stopping long enough to allow photos.

The flowers in the gardens were spectacular in the sunshine. Below the love-locks sculpture were several nice clumps of pink fawn lilies, and a Black-capped Chickadee went in and out of a nest in a small stump.

While the rest of us were leaving, Roger appered with his golf clubs for a round at the Pitch & Putt.
