Seven DNCBers met at 104th Street at 8am on a very cold morning – Marion, John, Lidia, Colin, Stephanie, Lorna and Terry. We were here to watch the rising tide bring shorebids close to shore. Large flocks of gulls, ducks and shorebirds were still a long way out. A Northern Harrier flew by, and several Bald Eagles were watching and occasionally causing the flocks to move. There were Black-bellied Plovers, with their short bills and black armpits, and smaller Dunlin with their longer bills.

Their huge murmurations were a lovely sight. Huge flocks of Northern Pintail also flew back and forth. Along the path was the remains of a partly eaten Snow Goose. The cold windy weather meant that the songbirds were few and far between. We did see Robins, House Finches, White-crowned Sparrows and Starlings.
The wind was very cold, and we decided that we had seen what we came to see, so we headed back to our cars. On the way back, Margaretha joined us. We were at the cars by 9:15, which made this one of our shortest outings.
