The cooler temperature was much appreciated. The birds were fairly few and far between, but there were some interesting bugs and animals. We saw Douglas and Eastern Grey Squirrels, Eastern Cottontails and a Muskrat. A Red Admiral Butterfly entertained us, even though it opened its wings very occasionally. There were also millipedes, slugs, bees, damselflies, bullfrogs, water striders and aquatic whirligig beetles.
Near the parking lot, the early people watched a Swainson’s Thrush. Photos showed that its beak was full of bees.

Along the way were Juncos, Robins, Towhees, Song Sparrows, Mallards, Crows, Western Wood-Pewee, Willow Flycatcher, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Yellow Warbler, Hermit Thrush, Cedar Waxwing, Steller’s Jay, Black-headed Grosbeak, Purple Finch, Black-capped and Chestnut-backed Chickadees, and Mourning Dove.
