It started off as a wet morning but soon cleared up as the walk progressed. It was a very dull morning with a high blustery wind. Photography wasn’t easy.
Nine people signed up for the Tuesday morning walk, and all showed up in spite of the bad forecast. The nine were: Mike B1, Lorna, Mike B2, Roger, Jim, Johnny Mac, Chris, Jonathan and Lorraine.
Thousands of Snow Geese were flying overhead and often landing in a field near the farm on the trail and on the shoreline. It is hard to estimate numbers seen, 2000-4,000.
Highlights for the day were a posing Merlin, a Fox Sparrow singing at the beginning of the walk, and three kinds of Geese in close proximity to each other: Canada, White-fronted and Snow.
In spite of the blustery conditions, we managed to spot 14 Species:
3000 Snow Geese
4 Canada Geese
16 White-fronted Geese
3 Green winged Teal
4 Golden Crowned Sparrows
1 Fox Sparrow (heard)
10 Song Sparrows
3 Northern Flickers
30 European Starlings
2 Anna’s Hummingbirds
1 Merlin
2 Northern Harriers
4 American Robins
2 Great Blue Heron
The outing started at 8 and finished early at around 10.30. Six of us retired to Petra’s for a wonderful “chat fest”.
