Eleven**(see below) birders showed up at 8:00 am to spend a delightful few hours wandering through the Terra Nova natural area in West Richmond. The species count was not that high… 26, but there were some nice sightings.

A Western Tanager male on a tree top, with his brilliant colours seeming to glow in the sunlight, as well as a White Pelican on Sturgeon Banks, and numerous Anna’s Hummingbirds performing aerobatics were some highlights.

We were blanked on our target bird the Green Heron in spite of two passes by the pond where it has been sighted daily recently. Another observation was the complete absence of the ‘usual suspects’ notably the Common Yellow Throat, Marsh Wren and Red winged Blackbird.

The trip wrapped up just before noon. It was becoming uncomfortably hot. Not one Cormorant was visible in the river from the parking area.

**The eleven of us were: Roger M, Mike B., Susan G., Pat S., Janet H., Joe S., John M., Donna T., Angela B., Brian A., Louise A.
