Eleven people met at Blackie Spit on Tuesday – Glen, Chris, Jim, Roger M, Mike B1, Janet, Johnny Mac, Pat, Marian P, Lorna, and Terry.

It was a gorgeous day, flowers were blooming, and we saw 17 bird species. There were no shorebirds on the spit, but there were the usual Ring-billed Gulls and Savannah Sparrows there.

In the Savenye Conservation area were large numbers of herons, yellowlegs, and Purple Martins. There were also Killdeer, Northern Flickers, Anna’s Hummingbirds, Starlings, House Finches, and a White-crowned Sparrow. On the way to the pumphouse we added Cedar Waxwings, Goldfinches, and more Yellowlegs and House Finches.

We saw several interesting insects, including tiny Woodland Skipper butterflies, Red Soldier Beetles, several wasp and grasshopper species, dragonflies, damselflies and a Yellow-collared Scape Moth.
