Tree Swallow nest near Cammidge House, Sept. 12, 2012 Peter & Ken H construct and maintain nestboxes in Reifel Sanctuary and at Iona RP, and keep records on each box.

From Peter Ward:

We had a good start on Saturday, October 6, and one Delta Nat (Kay) showed up, and displayed really good skills with measuring and layout.  So we had a good team of 3, Ken H, Peter and Kay.

We cut the used cedar fencing boards for 6 tree swallow boxes, and prepared the box fronts, complete with 2 in x 1 in holes.  On Thursday will start assembling these.  We are looking forward to making steady progress during the month of October.

Workshop meetings are at 9.30 am on Saturday, and 7.30 pm on Thursday, at xxxxxxxxxx. (address of Peter’s workshop removed from website)

Following Kay’s lead, Ken B & Anne A joined Peter & Ken H on Saturday, October 13, at Santa’s Peter’s Workshop in Vancouver.  We had a very enjoyable time, and made 6 new Tree Swallow boxes by noon.  The boxes are almost complete: they just need two mounting screw holes, branding with the “Cascades” logo, and Delta Nats ID tags.

Delta Nats currently need 15 replacement/new boxes for the BBRP (Centennial Beach/Beach Grove) area; the plan is to make 18, including a few with side-opening doors.

For future DNCB volunteers:
1.  bring earplugs and/or ear muffs (lots of noisy machinery)
2.  bring slip-on shoes (e.g. slippers) for inside work
