On Sunday, June 3, six Delta Nats (Ken & Anne, Anita DD, Ursula, Lorna and me) participated with our “hands-on” Display at Guy Gentner’s First Annual Environment Week event at Delview Park in North Delta.
There were 7 or 8 other Display Tents including, OWL, Burns Bog, Earthwise, etc. and a very popular Kite-making booth with kids lined up to make their own kites, and another popular booth for some awesome face-painting. I am not good at estimating, but I would guess that between 100 and 200 people showed up at this event.
Our Nats Display was also very popular as kids, and parents, enjoyed our Touchy-Feely stuff, Guess Boxes and, of course, the Wolf Skin.
Lorna gave out lots of Quiz Sheets and Anita got lots (25+) signatures on Vickie’s Famland Conversion Petition. Our set-up was awesome; we borrowed Don & Rochelle’s tent, Beth’s table along with Geof’s new Cammidge House Committee posters. Ursula put the Cammidge House info on Beth’s Bulletin Board, and I saw a few folk glance at it. Ken and Anne brought two more tables, so we had a just enough space to display all our paraphernalia. Ken and Ursula took photos which I hope to see shortly on our Picasa site at: http://picasaweb.google.com/dncbirding. I suppose the most important aspect about yesterday is that a lot of kids had fun, hopefully learned a bit, and so did we. Cheers: TomTom Bearss, President, Delta Naturalists’ Society
Next Wednesday, June 6 is our quarterly Birds on the Bay outing at Boundary Bay Regional Park. We meet and leave on our Walk from historic Cammidge House at 9:00 a.m., and then, on return to CH around 11:30 a.m., we enjoy goodies prepared by our Delta Nats Ladies.
