Under a beautiful clears sky on Thursday (Feb. 23) morning, we (Roger, Anne M, Hans, Terry and me) cleaned and closed the Bird Nest Boxes in Boundary Bay Regional Park.  Tree Swallows start arriving in early March, looking for homes.  Near the 12th Ave Park entrance, the first box (No. 2) near the path has fallen over.  Terry volunteered to return with a shovel and put the pole back in the ground and close the nest box.  We replaced Boxes 17 and 28 with repaired ones by Geof and Terry (THANKS, guys).  We could not find Box 26 near Cammidge House.

Most boxes are in good condition, but several were a bit “weak” (i.e. cracked, poor fits, shaky, etc.)  We will consider replacing them next Fall (tentative date Wed. October 17) when we “open” the boxes.  Three guys who look after Reifel’s Bird boxes (Peter Ward, Ken Hall, John Toochin) make boxes for around $10; we will look into Delta Nats buying a bunch of boxes to install in BBRP.

Other’s comments welcome.  Cheers: Tom
